Anthony Michael Sneed “Hell for Hire” Exhibition

For many this video will act as an introduction to Anthony Michael Sneed, a multi-platform artist who often incorporates early ’80s 8-bit video game aesthetics into his work. The clip features several contemporary art commentators who give their account on what Sneed and his artworks are all about. Fans will recognize the latter half of the film which was created during Sneed’s recent “Hell for Hire” exhibition where his controversial 9/11 work was displayed.

Talib Kweli – Gutter Rainbows (Album Cover & Tracklist)

Wall Street Bull by Olek

NYC-based artist Crocheted Olek crochets just about anything you could imagine, best viewed through her website here. She recently made-over the famous Wall Street Bull, done up in mix of neon yarns and covered completely from head to toe. The stunt took about two hours to complete according to Olek, although it was removed shortly after. Not much other details are available, but this is surely some of the coolest street art news we’ve heard in a bit.

Louis Vuitton 2011 Spring/Summer Collection Scott Campbell Part II

As previewed here, Scott Campbell features in this video for Louis Vuitton, since he has been chosen as the person who best embodies the aesthetics set to be unleashed in LV’s spring/summer collection due next year. This video continues where the last left off, with the artist now arriving at his destination, revealed to be a Louis Vuitton chapter. Before and after examining the latest monogrammed bag designs at the store, Campbell continues to search the streets for inspiration. Finally, he arrives at a studio to finalise some creative ideas that he then takes off, presumably for presentation at Louis Vuitton.

Kenny Scharf Houston Street Mural

Kenny Scharf is the latest artist to work an ephemeral mural at Houston and Bowery. He follows the Keith Haring tribute (fitting, as Scharf was a close friend of Haring’s), Os Gemeos, Shepard Fairey, and Barry McGee.
This weekend we checked out the latest progression of the mural, which looks to be turning out quite impressive.

NY Times: Mr. Cartoon in NYC

Mr. Cartoon was recently featured in The New York Times as part of a piece documenting his recent residency at the upscale Marcel at Gramercy. Bringing his talents to the East Coast, Cartoon will be offering his highly coveted tattoo services through tomorrow, albeit as a hefty cost. Below is an excerpt from the article with some insight into Mr. Cartoon’s role within the Marcel at Gramercy’s artist-in-residence series.
Photo: Richard Perry
It was a scene that unfolds along low-rent commercial strips in towns big and small, but this was no storefront tattoo parlor, with neon signs in the windows and folding chairs in cramped quarters. Instead, it was the pop-up studio of Mister Cartoon — a tattooist who counts Eminem, Beyoncé and Mena Suvari as clients — at the Marcel at Gramercy, an upscale boutique hotel looking to distinguish itself from the pack.
As part of the hotel’s artist-in-residence series, Mister Cartoon, who is based in Los Angeles and usually has a three-to-six-month waiting list for appointments, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars, has created original artwork that hangs in the lobby. And from Nov. 14 through Wednesday, he is offering his services out of a two-bedroom suite.
In a city with stiff competition for travel dollars and new rooms constantly under construction, hotels are scrambling to create promotions that give their properties a little personality, positioning themselves as go-to places for their desired customers.
“Hotels do these promotions, like offering a $10,000 cocktail complete with engagement ring, not so much because guests order them but because it creates an image of the hotel in patrons’ minds,” Sean Hennessey, the chief executive at Lodging Investment Advisors, a consulting firm, said in an e-mail.
At the Marcel, part of Amsterdam Hospitality, which also operates the Empire Hotel near Lincoln Center, that has meant an emphasis on the arts, intended to appeal to its guests from the fashion, entertainment and retail industries. “We were introduced to Cartoon, and once we saw his artwork, we said, ‘O.K., we’ve never thought about tattoos before, but this is kind of cool,’ ” said Blake Danner, the executive vice president of Amsterdam Hospitality.

OHWOW Pop-Up Shop @ Cappellini

Rafael de Cárdena collaborates with OHWOW founders Al Moran and Aaron Bondaroff to create a new pop-up shop at the Cappellini’s flagship space on Wooster Street in New York’s SoHo district. The coming together of the two creative parties represents the second such linking as they combine Cárdenas’ design language with the holiday festivities. A theme of kaleidoscopes and colorful wrappings are the prefect backdrop to highlight the OHWOW publications on sale. Various OHWOW artists will also contribute hand-painted holiday ornaments for display and sale as it adorns the outside of the pop-up shop. The OHWOW Pop-Up Shop @ Cappellini’s will remain open until January, 2011.
